About Me

It is always difficult to describe about one’s self in writting. It’s not easy for me to write this bit. Nevertheless, here’s how it goes.

My name is Mareena Yahya Kerschot. I was born in the historical city of Melaka in 1972 but grew up in the east coast part of Malaysia. The beach, mud, swamp, fish pond, guava and mango trees were my playground. I always look back at my childhood life as a “Kampung” girl who had an incredible time growing up so close to nature.

Art is one of my favourite subjects when I was in school. Throughout my school days, all my art teachers loved my artwork and encouraged me to pursue higher education, majoring in art. Whilst I also love singing, they didn’t think it make a bright future for me. My parents were against it. However, they managed to convince me to study Graphic Designs and Advertising. 15 years of my advertising career ended on 2007 when I became a mother.

I currently live with my husband and a gorgeous daughter in the greenest and nature surrounding in the heart city of Kuala Lumpur where we are able to admire the view of the Twin Tower and the cricket sounds at the same time.
Reading, singing and art have always been my passion. I started to do water colour and acrylic paintings a lot more as a hobby nowadays. At times I think it became my obsession. To me, it’s a form of self-expression and spirituality. It’s therapeutic!

Recently, I had the urge to showcase my work to the people out there. So, I decided to go public and started a new career (I still have butterflies in my stomach. This is huge move for me). After all, this was my dream since I was 10 years old - either singing or showcasing my work to a big audience.

RIMBA is the first brand that showcases my artwork. It is definitely a new beginning, a new career for me. Please check out my stuff. I hope you like it and enjoy it as much as I do.
